Practice Description: With the right therapist, psychotherapy can have the power to help people discover, identify, and understand feelings and behaviors that often create confusion, anxiety and uncertainty or loss of control. Learning how to put these feelings into words helps people to develop a greater sense of inner control, compassion, and increased well-being.

I have devoted my career to helping people of all ages deal with their unique emotional challenges. With children and adolescents, I guide them through the many anxieties inherent in growing up. While helping young people develop increased independence, I pay close attention to helping the families improve relationships with one another. As girls struggle to establish their identity and develop ways of asserting themselves, they can often turn to food in maladaptive ways. The use of food can be an attempt to take charge when in fact they feel very out of control. Therapy can offer an effective relief in the form of understanding and structure, as we work to address the immense pressures the entire family may feel.

With my adult patients, I specialize in enabling people to come to terms with the many frustrations, disappointments and losses in life, while addressing the various forces that may interfere with achieving one's goals. Whether the losses relate to death, lost hope or aging, the more a person can learn about their own grief, the more room they can make for new learning and new choices. This applies to my work with individuals or couples.

I am also a specialist in the field of infertility, women's reproductive health, and the transition to parenthood and menopause. I have lectured, educated, and supervised patients and mental health professionals in the area. I guide women and couples through all phases of infertility, assisting them to make many complicated choices regarding their medical options while sorting through the emotional challenges involved in building a family through assisted reproductive technology. The transition to pregnancy and parenthood involves tremendous change in an individual's identity and marital relationship. However, this joyous achievement may also involve intense and confusing feelings, such as anxiety, sadness, or shame. By giving yourself an opportunity to examine these unsettling feelings is a way to reduce the impact of negative feelings while working to increase your own sense of power and self-esteem.
