Practice Description: With 30+ years experience, I have found that most of my clients come to therapy because they've experienced difficulties in relationships. Often times these relationships are too merged or they are too emotionally distant. Sometimes people feel swallowed up in their relationships and sometimes they feel so isolated and disjointed that they hide from their personal world. Therapy focuses on the individual, and the emotional reactions, the patterns/interactions that just don't work for the client. To my way of thinking, therapy is about emotion; it is about intimacy or the lack of intimacy in an individual's life. Therapy is not just about understanding what's going wrong in your life, but it's about knowing who you are in a way that helps the person also begin to know the people around her/himself. In many relationships, and this happens in both individual therapy as well as in couple counseling, it's crucial to help the person understand emotional communications from lovers, family, or in the workplace. Who we are and who we have been, all makes up who we are about to become, which, I believe, is having a better sense of self-esteem, worth, and a sense of knowing the emotions that we use to get through the day. Therapy is about becoming a person you care about, it's about becoming more evolved emotionally, more open, creative, and progressive in both the inner world of the person, as well as the outer world of our environment.
