Practice Description: My practice philosophy is that each of us has the inner gifts to work toward wholeness. Life's challenges can cause us to get off-balance.

I would especially urge parents to get help for a child or teen who is showing signs of anxiety or stress. Some of these include: temper tantrums, angry outbursts, noncommunication (adolescents), school failiure, school behavior problems, school absences, illness--especially headaches, stomach aches, asthma, ADHD, depression, sleeplessness, fears, bedwetting, cutting.

A child who is taking medicatiion for ADHD, anxiety, depression should also be getting regular counseling. A child who has suffered loss such as death of a parent, grandparent, sibling, friend, frequent moves, absent or incarcerated parent, divorce, alcoholism or addiction, physical, verbal, or sexual abuse or witnessing abuse would benefit from counseling. These things can be helped with counseling, sooner rather than later.

If you have any of these concerns as a parent, please call and we can talk about your situation and determine if counseling might help.

I have 19 years experience as a school teacher and counselor and it has given me the opportunity to work with thousands of children as well as their parents. They have been my best teachers. I have completed all six (6) levels of Sand Tray Therapy with Dr. Gisela DiDomenico of Oakland, CA.

The play therapy is extremely helpful because it allows children and teens to work through difficult issues in a safe way--letting the art, puppets or sand tray figures play out the battles, release anger, address fear and loss, work on communication skills and problem solving. It frees them up emotionally and allows them more energy to be doing their jobs of being kids--school, learning about themselves and life, getting ready to become happy, productive adults.

Research indicates that between eight to twenty play therapy sessions are needed to help with most problems, but generally, a child, teen, or adult feels some relief after even the first session.

Best wishes! Please call if I can be of any help.
