Common questions to ask your insurance representative: Do you have mental health or counseling benefits?
Is there an annual limit to the number of sessions you can have with a counselor/psychotherapist?
Do you have to see someone on the insurance panel in order to get reimbursed?
Do you have an out of network option to see someone not on the insurance panel?
Do you have a co-pay or co-insurance? How much is it?
Do you have a deductible that needs to be met? Some insurances have a separate deductible for medical visits and a separate deductible for counseling/mental health visits. Be sure to ask about a counseling deductible.
What would cause your claim to be denied?
Many of these questions can be answered if you have an online account with your health insurance. Log in to your account and review your benefits. If you're not clear it's a good idea to call and speak with a representative from your insurance. |
