Part science, part art.
The science of therapy provides us with data that tells us which therapeutic strategies work best for specific problems. For me, knowing the science is crucial; using it, however, is an art.
The art of therapy starts with the cumulative life experiences of the therapist. A good therapist is transparent, empathic, open, honest, and comes to the work with humor.
A good therapist works in the place where science and art collide. This is where I reside when working with clients. This is where therapy can be the most productive and meaningful.
