Practice Description: |
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 20 years' experience helping individuals and couples to identify solutions to their problems and choose changes which can bring them closer to the realization of their potential.
Socrates said, "The unexamined life is not worth living." People spend their lives pursuing various goals sometimes without asking themselves if these are important. Our society discourages self-awareness with a weekly cycle of working and consuming that prevents slowing down for self-reflection. Socrates believed that the purpose of human life was personal and spiritual growth. We can accelerate our growth when we take time to examine and reflect upon our lives. Choosing psychotherapy can provide time each week to devote to this examination without distractions, intrusions, or demands from others. This is time which you set aside for yourself to do this important work which only you can do.
In the presence of a trained, objective listener you can hear your hopes and dreams, and recognize the barriers to their achievement. Examining your life can reveal patterns of behavior and provide insight into the unconscious programming, the powerful software, that runs your life. Becoming aware of these patterns can break the unconscious repetition of failed strategies, and open you to giving and getting the love you want. It's never too late to reap the rewards of self-examination.
I use a compasssionate approach combining insight-oriented psychotherapy with cognitive/behavioral techniques in a nurturing, safe, supportive environment. I believe that change is within the grasp of anyone willing to examine the realities of life, to make the time and effort to discover options for dealing with specific situations and to implement a systematic program to reach and attain goals.
I received my doctorate (Ed.D) from Temple University. I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC #42235), a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York (LMHC #2837), a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC #262) in Connecticut and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington State (LMHC #3974).
