Practice Description: |
Psychotherapy is a confidential interpersonal relationship formed between a mental health professional and a patient. In this setting issues are addressed related to a person’s level of functioning internally (way of thinking) and externally (how they react to the environment). In treatment, patients are able to talk with someone privately who is unbiased and that provides an objective point of view to their pending circumstance and assists them with problem resolution. Psychotherapy supports people with getting in touch with their inner most feelings and learning how to communicate it more effectively, so that they improve relationships with others in their life (family/work/friends/school). This form of treatment can be performed one on one, with groups, couples and/or families.
Individual psychotherapy is provided to adolescents and adults. Additionally, couples counseling and family therapy is also available. The primary mode of treatment is through behavioral and cognitive therapy models. Psychiatric referrals are available upon request.

Suzanne is a Master Level Licensed Clinical Social Worker that is trained as a psychotherapist. Suzanne has over 30yrs in the field with a diversified background in both medical and mental health settings. She also has experience as an executive coach which she does on a contractual basis. She assists people with improving their communication, organization and problem solving skills. Her private practice serves adolescents, adults, families and geriatrics. The modes of therapeutic treatment options offered are behavioral and cognitive approaches.
Background
I received my Masters in Social Work Degree in May 1993 from the University Of Maryland School Of Social Work located in Baltimore, Maryland. My concentration was clinical with a specialization in Children and Families and Mental Health.
From 1991 to 1993 I worked in Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland as an inpatient medical/surgical social worker and later worked as an outpatient case manager in their dialysis unit with people that suffered renal failure.
In 1993 until 1995 I joined Catholic Charities in Washington, DC and worked as part of the Foster Care Team. I was one of the primary social workers that served children in the state of Maryland that suffered with severe emotional and behavioral problems that needed to be placed in therapeutic foster homes. In addition, I performed fund raising responsibilities to support programs for the children.
At the beginning of 1996 through 1999, I joined the University of Maryland Medical Systems located in Baltimore, Maryland and worked in the Transplantation Division performing both inpatient and outpatient Social Work services. I was instrumental in establishing the pre-evaluation position for screening potential transplant patients and their donors. In addition, I created a special fund for low income patients that were unable to afford their medications and equipment necessary for survival of their new organ. Later in my career at UMMS, I was recruited to work with the inpatient psychiatric team. I worked with adults, children and geriatric patients who suffer all types of mental illnesses both new onset and chronic disorders. Eventually, I became team leader of the social work program on the inpatient psychiatric department and was responsible for the dual diagnosis groups along with training the medical residents and supervising the social psychiatric team.
At the end of 1999 until 2000, I went to work in the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC as a therapist in the Adult Day Hospital. I was responsible to provide therapy services to adults both individuals and groups that were recently discharged from the hospital. These outpatients were closely monitored for regression and possibly readmission.
In 2000 until 2003 I was hired to work in the Kaiser Permanente Summit Behavioral Health located in Kensington, Maryland. I worked in the adult psychiatric group with outpatients that suffered various mental health issues. In addition, I was the primary therapist for adolescents that were transitioning out of the children’s mental health program. I also served the complex, chronic mental health cases that were in long-term outpatient care and/or were resistant to treatment. Besides my psychotherapy experience at Kaiser I worked as an urgent care therapist doing crisis intervention and screenings for hospitalizations.
In March 2003, I opened my private practice offices in Silver Spring and Bethesda, Maryland. In my practice, I served adolescents and adults that suffered with mental health issues and adjustment issues related to life altering circumstances such as medical issues, relationship problems, family crisis and child rearing concerns. The primary disorders addressed in therapy were anxiety (panic attacks, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, and obsessive compulsive disorder), mood disorder (depression/bipolar disorder) and adjustment issues. Some of the population served suffered with transitional issues related to going to college, divorce/separation, and diagnosis of medical problems (acute/chronic). In addition, I work with parents and care givers that had children with special needs. I have consulted with parents regarding the educational system, local resources, and support services available.
In September 2006, I relocated to Plainview, New York where I continued my private practice serving the adolescent and adult population. Additionally, I have worked as a consultant doing executive coaching for Automobile Dealerships.
Since 2006 to the present, Suzanne has run a thriving private practice in Plainview offering both in-person and Telehealth therapy. If you’re struggling with issues, stuck with change of life circumstances or need assistance and guidance to figure out your life paths, then you should reach out to schedule an appointment to regain focus and clarity for your future. |
