Practice Description: |
As a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 35 years experience working with clients, and teaching and writing about psychotherapy, I understand what it takes for growth to occur.
DEVELOPING RESILIENCE-TO-CHANGE. This is important in order to effectively cope with major life transitions (such as loss of a loved one, divorce, retirement, medical illness, birth of a child, new job). Without such resilience, life can feel overwhelming, self esteem becomes precarious, and mood can dip dramatically.
UNDERSTANDING THE NEGATIVE IMPACT OF THE PAST WHILE ACTIVELY TACKLING CURRENT SELF DEFEATING BEHAVIORS. These behaviors undressed undermine self esteem and ability to form close relationships.
COLLABORATIVE, INTERACTIVE APPROACH TO THERAPY Clients value my warm, direct style as we collaborate to address the behaviors that continue to cause pain. Through my collegial, highly interactive approach, I help a wide range of clients (from CEOs to homemakers, college students to senior adults) deal with the stress and anxiety that undermine life satisfaction. Couples (in both traditional and nontraditional relationships), stressed executives, ACOA's, and parents dealing with a grown child’s failure to launch value my clear focused approach to creating change.
KNOWING WHEN TO GET HELP As former Director of the Substance Abuse Outpatient Clinic at McLean Hospital, I have helped scores of family members to cope with the pain of chaotic and unpredictable lives, improve the quality of their own lives and find more effective ways of intervening to help their loved ones. This includes help for a grown child, an aging parent or a highly successful professional spouse whose alcohol use is increasingly taking its toll.
RECOGNIZING THAT PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS CAN HAVE UNANTICIPATED DOWNSIDES THAT THERAPY CAN ADDRESS Many high functioning individuals, despite considerable life success experience depression, anxiety, loneliness and sense of meaninglessness. I help stressed CEOs, high power professionals in medicine, academia, law and the arts, and those facing major life upheaval to experience greater life satisfaction, personally and professionally.
