Max Fisher LCSW
Meet Max (They/Them/Theirs)
We all need help. My personal experience seeking mental health services as a teenager and young adult shaped my decision to become a therapist. I struggled to find providers who were not only accessible but also understood and reflected my identities, experiences, and values. This led me to pursue a career where I could help individuals navigate the mental health system in ways that feel affirming and empowering. My goal is to challenge and change the system to ensure that it is accessible to everyone, especially those who may feel marginalized or underrepresented.
I take a humanistic and somatic approach to therapy, combining techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). This allows me to meet clients where they are, integrating their emotional and physical experiences in the process of healing. Additionally, I draw from Critical Race, Disability, Gender, and Queer Theory to guide my work, ensuring that I support clients in ways that align with their unique identities and lived experiences. I am also trained in EMDR.
I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community, supporting individuals through trauma processing, life transitions, and psychosis. My approach is inclusive and affirming, tailored to meet the needs of clients navigating challenges related to identity, mental health, and societal pressures.
