"My goal is to understand your problems as you do, and begin to reframe them in a way that will be less overwhelming. Primarily I pay attention to your style of thinking and how that may be contributing to your issue. Once “maladaptive” thought processes are identified, we will work together to replace them with healthier, more realistic thinking. And as our thoughts, emotions and behaviors are connected, we will also develop coping skills to process negative emotions and curb problem behaviors. By targeting all three, people usually see results quickly, and with enough practice and time experience lasting results.
I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This therapy was developed over 25 years ago for the treatment of trauma. Research has shown that when a person experiences a traumatic event it stays “stuck” in the primitive part of the brain and is experienced over and over with the same sights, sounds, smells, body sensations and emotions. EMDR helps to move this information to a part of the brain that can process it and see it in a different way which will improve your present day functioning and decrease symptoms. EMDR is also used for other disorders such as phobias and OCD."
